As the trees start changing colors and the weather gets cooler here, at Create CommUNITY we are eagerly looking forward to our Conversation on Race event. Scheduled for October 8th at the Rivers Edge Convention Center this yearly gathering holds a place in our hearts—it's not a date on the calendar but a significant moment for our community to unite listen, learn and evolve.
With a weeks left we're adding the final details to what is shaping up to be an insightful and transformative evening. This year we are privileged to have Dr. Jonathan M. Metzl as our speaker—a physician, sociologist and author. Dr. Metzl will be sharing perspectives from his thought provoking book titled "Dying of Whiteness " delving into the dynamics of race, health and policy in America.
However don't be misled by the title—this discussion is inclusive of all backgrounds and beliefs. Dr. Metzls work encourages us to reflect on how certain policies influenced by tensions can have unexpected impacts, on entire communities. His message promotes unity and collective well being by urging us to move past language and focus on solutions that benefit everyone.
Our upcoming event aims to create a welcoming atmosphere, for respectful discussions. To kick off the evening we'll gather for a dinner providing an opportunity to connect with neighbors from backgrounds. After Dr. Metzls talk there will be time for questions, conversations and sharing stories.
